Ancient Edged Weapon of Java Island

The Indonesian Ancient Edged Weapon of Java Island offers ancient weapons which were produced mostly during the era of Majapahit kingdom (13th - 16th century AD), the largest Hindu empire of the Java island, in nowaday Indonesia, who controlled most of Southeast Asia. This and other small Javanese kingdoms have produced various kind of artistic edged weapons since two thousand years ago. Many of them are said to have mystical power.

There are the six types of Javanese edged weapon:

1. Keris (blade), the passion blade of Javanese culture. Regarded more as symbol of status and power rather than weapon. Local belief about the magical power give a different dimension of "weapon" to this artistic blade and to the other types as well.

2. Tumbak (spear), spear of Java which is not less important than Keris.

3. Patrem (women's blade), a smaller type of Keris specially designed for ladies.
